In a first time ever eclectic production, the award winning, all star Latin-Jazz Coalition founded 24 years ago by trombonist/ composer Demetrios Kastaris (El Griego Rumbero), and his newly born 14 piece ensemble Conjunto Katharí with 4 trombones and master sonero Sammy Navarro in the forefront, also founded by Kastaris, will make their world debut. They will be performing in a very unique, must see, historic concert on Friday evening, December 10, 2010 at Flushing Town Hall in Queens, New York. Over twenty eight artists in the two overlapping orchestras will perform Afro-Cuban Jazz, uniquely Puerto Rican Salsa and Bomba, Bebop Jazz, Merengue, Latin Gospel music by Conjunto Katharí (pure and clean musical ensemble), and Greek folkloric music in both original and hybrid forms. The concert title is “Afro-Cuban Fire, Spritual Oil and Greek Cookin'”.
World renowned master Jazz virtuoso trombonist and conch shell player, Steve Turre will join in as an invited guest with both groups. Also performing and making his debut in the United States that night will be Jazz virtuoso trumpeter Yannis Economides from Thessaloniki, Greece. Forty year old Economides is a pioneer and avid promoter of Afro-Cuban Jazz in Europe. He is the founder of the ensemble “Aroma Caribe”, Greece’s top Latin band. To add some Greek folkloric taste to the event fourteen year old prodigy Theofilos Katechis will perform the bouzouki, an exotic sounding Middle Eastern stringed instrument of Asian influence that has been a mainstay in Greek music for many years.
The two plus hour concert begins at 8:00 p.m. and promises to be a very spiritually uplifting, and extremely energetic celebration of contrasting cultures and tastes that work together marvelously.

Por primera vez en una producción ecléctica el galardonado de Estrellas Latin Jazz Coalition, fundado hace 24 años por el trombonista y compositor Demetrios Kastaris, junto con el grupo recién nacido de 14 de artistas Conjunto Kathari también fundado por Kastaris. Con 4 trombones y el maestro sonero Sammy Navarro, harán un extraordinario debut, actuando en un concierto único histórico. En la noche del Viernes, 10 de diciembre de 2010, en Flushing Town Hall en Queens, Nueva York (hay que verlo), más de veintiocho artistas en las dos orquestas interpretando jazz afro-cubano, Salsa y Bomba de Puerto Rico, Jazz Bebop, y merengue. También música latina spiritual por el Conjunto Kathari (conjunto musical puro y limpio), además música folclórica griega en original y formas híbridas. El título del concierto es “Fuego Afro-Cubano, Aceite Espritual y Sabor Griego”
El mundialmente reconocido maestro virtuoso trombonista de jazz y un íntérprete de conchas de caracol, Steve Turre se unirá como invitado a ambos grupos. Además se adiciona al espectáculo y hace su debut en los Estados Unidos en esta noche el virtuoso trompetista de jazz Yannis Economides de Tesalónica, Grecia. Economides ha sido un pionero y promotor entusiasta de jazz afro-cubano y salsa en Europa. Él es el fundador del grupo “Aroma Caribe”, la major banda de música latina en Grecia. Para añadir un sabor folklórico griego, Theofilos Katechisun prodigio de catorce años, interpretará el bouzouki, un instrumento de cuerda del medio oriental con un exótico sonido de origen asiático que ha sido un elemento básico en la música griega durante muchos años.

Έπειτα από τρεις δεκαετίες ακούραστης εργασίας, έφτασε επιτέλους η μέρα της ωρίμανσης ενός μοναδικού μουσικού γεγονότος, το οποίο πιστεύω ότι θα αλλάξει τη δημιουργική μουσική σκηνή της Νέας Υόρκης.
Το έντονο και άσβεστο πάθος μου για την τζαζ, την αφροκουβανέζικη, την πορτορικάνικη, την ελληνική, την αφροαμερικάνικη και την λατίνο γκόσπελ μουσική, με οδήγησε στην πραγματοποίηση αυτής της μεγαλειώδους συναυλίας, με τη συμμετοχή 28 καλλιτεχνών, στην οποία θα ακουστούν όλα αυτά τα είδη μουσικής.
Είμαι πολύ ενθουσιασμένος για την παγκόσμια πρεμιέρα της νέας 14μελούς ορχήστρας μου “Conjunto Katharí” (Κονχούντο Καθαρή) με τέσσερα τρομπόνια και τρεις τραγουδιστές και περήφανος για την πρώτη μου ορχήστρα, την βραβευμένη «Latin Jazz Coalition», την οποία ίδρυσα πριν από 24 χρόνια.
